Field trials and commercial cultivation in the United Kingdom

Field trials

231 field trials with genetically modified organismshave been registered in the UK, most of which were conducted prior to 2001. Since 2002, only nine trials have been entered into the register, the last in 2004. Wheat, rapeseed, potato, and sugar beet were the last GM plants grown in field trials in the UK.
The database of all GMO releases can be viewed at the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety or at Biotechnology & GMOs for all EU member states.

More statistics

 

Commercial cultivation

Currently, there is no commercial cultivation of GM plants in the UK. The UK government wants wait on cultivating GM crops until coexistence regulations are in place. This is not expected to happen before 2008.
