Trait: The hybrid MON87701 x MON89788 expresses two novel proteins: CP4 EPSPS, which confers tolerance to glyphosate-containing herbicides (Roundup®), and Cry1Ac, which confers resistance to lepidopteran pests.

cry1A(c)- Gen	Source: Bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki Function: These gene encodes the Bt-toxin Cry1A(c), which confers resistance to lepidopteran pests.
Inserted gene (MON89788):
cp4 epsps- Gen	Source: Soil bacterium Agrobacterium ssp. strain CP4. Funktion: The cp4 epsps gene encodes for a version of EPSPS that is highly tolerant to inhibition by glyphosate and therefore leads to increased tolerance to glyphosate-containing herbicides.
