Maize MON89034 x 1507 x NK603

Trait: The hybrid MON89034x1507xNK603 expresses novel insecticidal proteins: The Bt-toxins cry1A.105 and cry2Ab2 which confers resistance to the lepidopterans, cry1F-gene which confers resistance to european corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis), and tolerance to glufosinate-containing and glyphosate-containing herbicide  (Roundup).
Inserted genes (MON89034):
cry1A.105 and
cry2Ab2

Source: Bacillus thuringiensis

Function: The toxins protects the plant from the Lepidopteran insects, fall armyworm (Spodoptera sp.), black cutworm (Agrotis ipsilon), european corn borer(Ostrinia nubilalis) and the corn earworm (Helicoverpa zea).

Inserted genes (1507):
cryIF-gene

Source: Bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki

Function: The gene codes for a Bt-toxin, which protects the plant against the european corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis) and other lepidopterans such as the pink borer (Sesamia spp.), fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda), black cutworm (Agrotis ipsilon) and southwestern corn borer (Diatraea grandiosella).

pat-geneSource: Soil bacterium (Streptomyces viridochromogenes)

Function: This gene codes for the enzyme Phosphinothricin-Acetyltransferase (PAT) and leads to increased tolerance to glufosinate-containing herbicides.

This gene is used as a marker gene.

Inserted genes (NK603):
cp4 epsps- gene

Source: Soil bacterium Agrobacterium ssp. strain CP4

Function: The CP4 EPSPS gene encodes for a version of EPSPS Enzyme that is highly tolerant to inhibition by glyphosate.

Methods for the genetic modification: Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated gene transfer (MON89034, NK603),  Microparticle bombardment of plant cells tissue (1507).
