Maize 59122xNK603

Trait: Insect resistant and herbicide tolerant maize hybrid derived from conventional cross-breeding of the parental lines 59122 and NK603. The hybrid produces two Bt-toxins (Cry34Ab1, Cry35Ab1) conferring resistance to the European corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis) and to herbicide Roundup (with the active ingredient glyphosate)

Inserted genes (59122):
cry34Ab1, cry35Ab1-genes

Source: Bacillus thuringiensis ssp. kumamotoensis

Function: The toxin protects the plant from the Coleopteran insects western corn rootworm (Diabrotica virgifera), northern corn rootworm (D. barberi), and Mexican corn rootworm (D. virgifera zeae).

Inserted genes (NK603):
cp4 epsps- gene

Source: Soil bacterium Agrobacterium ssp. strain CP4

Function: The CP4 EPSPS gene encodes for a version of EPSPS that is highly tolerant to inhibition by glyphosate.

Methods for the genetic modification: Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated gene transfer.
