Maize MON863 x NK603

Trait: The hybrid MON863 X NK603 expresses two novel proteins: The Bt-toxin Cry3Bb1, which is insecticidal to coleopterans such as the Corn Rootworm, and CP4 EPSPS which confers tolerance to the herbicide glyphosate (Roundup).
Inserted gene (MON863):
cry3Bb1-gene

Source: Bacillus thuringiensis ssp. kumamotoensis

Function: The Cry3Bb1 protein confers protection against certain coleopteran insect pests (Diabrotica verigifera verigifera) the western rootworm.

Inserted gene (NK603):
cp4 epsps- gene

Source: soil bacterium Agrobacterium ssp. strain CP4

Function: By the change of one amino acidthe plants are tolerant to the herbicides with the ingridient glyphosate.

Markergene nptII (gene coding for tolerance to kanamycin)
Methods for the genetic modification: Microparticle bombardment of plant cells or tissue.
