Maize MON863 x MON810 x NK603

Trait: The stacked hybrid MON863 X MON810 X NK603 expresses two novel insecticidal proteins: Two varieties of the Bt-toxin: Cry3Bb1 confers resistance to coleopterans such as the Corn Rootworm, and Cry1Ab confers resistance to lepidopterans like the European corn borer. The stacked hybrid, from the line NK603, also expresses the novel protein CP4 EPSPS, which confers glyphosatetolerance (Roundup).
Inserted genes:
cry3Bb1-gene

Source: Bacillus thuringiensis ssp. kumamotoensis

Function: The Cry3Bb1 protein confers protection against certain coleopteran insect pests including the western rootworm (Diabrotica verigifera verigifera).

cry1A(b)-gene

Source: Bacillus thuringiensis ssp. kurstaki

Function: Expressing the Bt-toxin makes the plant resistant to the European corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis).

cp4 epsps- gene

Source: Soil bacterium Agrobacterium ssp. strain CP4

Function: Tolerance to herbicides containing glyphosate is imparted by a change in one amino acid.

Marker gene nptII (confers tolerance to kanamycin)
Method of genetic modification: Microparticle bombardment of plant cells or tissue.
