Maize MON863 x MON810

Trait: The hybrid MON863 X MON810 expresses two novel insecticidal proteins: The Bt-toxins Cry3Bb1 and Cry1Ab which confers insect resistance.
Inserted gene (MON863):
cry3Bb1-gene

Source: Bacillus thuringiensis ssp. kumamotoensis

Function: The cry3Bb1 gene encoding a Coleopteran-specific insecticidal protein in order to control infestation with corn root worm (Diabrotica verigifera verigifera).

Inserted gene (MON810):
cry1A(b)-gene

Source: Bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki

Function: By expressing the Bt-toxin the plant conferred a resistance to the European corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis).

Markergene nptII (gene coding for tolerance to kanamycin)
Methods for the genetic modification: Microparticle bombardment of plant cells or tissue.
