Ribosome inhibiting proteins

Proteins that prevent the production of certain proteins in fungi

These proteins work by interfering with certain ribosomes. Ribosomes are "protein factories" - the sites of protein synthesis.

Some genetic engineering strategies involve taking genes for ribosome inhibiting proteins and integerating them into plants as a fungus defence strategy. Protein synthesis could be halted in pathogenic fungi while leaving plant protein synthesis unaffected.
