Description

Seed of the flaxseed

Application

Flaxseed is used either whole or shredded, singularly or as an ingredient in other foods to the enrichment with fibre. The seed of the flaxseed is also found in bread and baked goods. Flaxseed bread consists 10 to 15 per cent of flaxseed (based on the total amount of flour).

Gene technology

Raw material flax: herbicide tolerant gene modified flax has been approved in Canada. However, noteworthy cultivation has not taken place.
The import of GM flaxseed or linseed, as well as the foods produced thereof and food ingredients are a regulated product in the EU. To date there are no available applications.

Labelling: flaxseed from GM flax is subject to a labelling requirement.
