Description of produkt

For muesli bars, at least 50% should comprise muesli ingredients; cereal flakes, oil-containing seeds and dried fruit. These components are usually formed into bars through the addition of different types of sugar and fat and by heat treatment. Many products are enriched with vitamins or contain probiotic bacteria to improve the gut flora.

Because of the number of different products it is not possible to give generally applicable information on the possible utilisation of gene technology.

Possible application of gene technology

Applications of gene technology are possible in the following ingredients that commonly are found in muesli bar. However, the extent to which a particular product is affected by these possibilities cannot be stated with certainty:

• vitamin C (antioxidising agent)
• glukosyrup, fruktose
• suger
• citric acid
• cornflakes
• flavouring
• maltodextrin, dextrose
• plant fats
• colouring: beta-carotene
