Description of product

Spekulatius or speculaas is a popular, slightly soft christmas biscuit. It is served in varieties such as butter or almond speculaas. Its typical taste comes from its specific mix of spices, which consists of cloves, cardamom, mace, allspice and vanilla.

  • The name spekulatius presumably derives from the word "speculator", latin for "the one who looks" and refering to one of the names given to Saint Nicholas.
  • See also: printe (old-fashioned christmas gingerbread biscuit), dominoes, gingerbread cake
