Description of product

The classic nibbles are non-sweet long-life bakery products such as cheese sticks, crackers and pretzels as well as crisps, potato sticks and peanut puffs.

Possible application of gene technology

Applications of gene technology are possible in the following ingredients that commonly are found in salty snacks. However, the extent to which a particular product is affected by these possibilities cannot be stated with certainty:

• flour, also maize meal
• frying oil: plant oils, e.g. soya oil or rapeseed oil; also cottonseed oil
• flavour enhancers: glutamate, seasonings flavourings based on yeast
• emulsifying agents: e.g. mono- and digylceride
• acidifying agents: citric acid
• flavourings: e.g. cheese flavourings
• starches and modified starches, maltodextrine
• colourings: annatto
• enzymes from genetically modified microorganisms as pastry supplements, e.g. amylases, proteases, hemicellulases
