Due to the multitude of varying products, no general references may be given to possible applications of gene technology. Please search for individual ingredients or additives.

Possible applications of gene technology

Applications of gene technology are possible in the following ingredients that commonly are found in convenience foods. However, the extent to which a particular product is affected by these possibilities cannot be stated with certainty:

  • plant-based oils and fats
  • milk protein or whey powder, soy protein or plant protein products
  • starch and modified starches, flour or breading
  • flavour enhancer (glutamate), emulgators such as lecithin, antioxidants
  • acidifier citric acid
  • spices and aromas
  • vitamin C
  • thickener: cellulose, hydroxypropyl starch, phosphate starch
  • particularly in reduced-calorie products, sweeteners such as sorbitol and aspartame may also be present
