Description of product

ACE products, which mostly are available on the market as beverages, have a high content of vitamins A (or of beta-carotene, the precursor to vitamin A), C and E. Nonetheless, they are often enriched with additional vitamins.

  • The three vitamins A, C and E are antioxidants, which may intercept “free radicals”. Free radicals are harmful, highly reactive compounds that are produced in various metabolic processes. They may also enter the body from the environment or be produced through cigarette smoke or the influence of UV radiation from sunlight. It is suspected that free radicals facilitate the development of illnesses such as arteriosclerosis, cancer, rheumatism and Alzheimer’s disease.
  • It is thought that ACE products have a beneficial effect on health. To date, various ACE products are available, mostly on the basis of milk or fruit juice.
  • See also: fruit juice, lemonade

Possible application of gene technology

If the ACE effect is desired through use of vitamin additives, it is possible that the added

may have been produced with the assistance of genetically modified microorganisms.
